Waste management is a large and growing market world-wide. The methods of managing waste are moving away from disposal, and more towards resource recovery. Society as a whole is seeking more sustainable waste management practices that have lower environmental impact than traditional solutions such as landfill or incineration. Since there is a lot of waste which cannot be either recycled or composted, PyroGenesis considers its plasma-based waste treatment technology to be complementary to the more traditional practices as there will always be waste which cannot be handled even by environmentally friendly methods.

PyroGenesis believes that society is moving towards a more decentralized approach to waste management with the intent of avoiding transportation of waste to a centralized location. The ultimate goal would be to treat waste locally and convert it to usable products for the community itself.
